1 Heinrich Marty b: 7 November 1830 in Engi, Glarus, Switzerland d: 24 November 1910 in Woodbury Township, Washington County, Minnesota.  Henry and most of his family is buried in Cottage Grove Cemetery, but Henry and Katherina are not buried together.

                                                 Heinrich and Katherina Marty

Mr. Heinrich Marty was born Nov. 14, 1830.  He was married to Katherina Marty, daughter of Joachim Marty and Katharina Wurster, on March 8, 1853. 

On March 14, 1853 the young couple immigrated to America on the ship "John Hancock", landing in New York on 3 May 1853.  Going west they first made their home in Wisconsin, but shortly afterwards moved still father west to Minnesota.    

After working here and there for sometime, a 40 acre farm was bought in Sec. 31 R20 T29 on which a log cabin was erected.  This was sold to Christian Lewerer in 1855 for $300.00. 

In 1856, a 160 acre farm was bought, which was in Sec. 26 R21 T28 Woodbury Township.  The Martys remained in the log cabin with the Lewerers for two years until their new home in Woodbury was erected. 

Henry and his wife spent 54 years living on that farm.  After many hardships and failures, success finally followed, as they left to their descendants property worth more than $7,500.00. 

In 1883, Henry and Catherina's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Joachim Marty, moved into their home to spend the rest of their days with them.  Mr. and Mrs. Joachim lived in a log cabin on the west 40 adjoining the Henry Marty farm since 1854.

Mr. Henry Marty lived to see his 80th birthday and passed away Nov. 24, 1910.  Mrs. Catherina Marty passed away Feb. 17th, 1914 at the age of 79 years, 9 months and 23 days.
