Sebastian Marti 1810 - 1885, born in Engi, Glarus,
Switzerland, died in Washington County, Minnesota
Sebastian made a claim for a
homestead in Stillwater Township in 1848. He
then sold the homestead to Henry Jackman in 1851 and
moved to the Lakeland area. He bought a
farm at Horseshoe Lake near Lake Elmo in Lakeland
Township, Washington County, Minnesota. He also donated
the land for St. Lucas Evangelical Lutheran Church and
cemetery at Horseshoe Lake. Sebastian's daughters were
to receive $400.00 in his will. Evidently, they
displeased him as he later made a codicil and left his
daughters only $300.00. His son,
Adam, received $50.00 and his youngest son, Sebastian,
inherited the homestead in Lakeland Township. His
descendants are still living there today.

wife, she died in Switzerland eighteen
months after Adam was born. Both of
their daughters died shortly after birth

Adam is buried in Fairview Cemetery in Stillwater near
Sam Bloomer, but his second wife is not buried there.

Ottilie M. S. Hoffman
(daughter of Reverend Hoffman who was pastor at St.
Lucas) died September 15, 1870, Her baby
daughter died on the same day. Their headstone
at St. Johns Lutheran Cemetery, Baytown Township, Minnesota,
is pictured above right

+ Johanna Christine Margarethe Einsidel 1825
- 1895 Second wife of Sebastian, died in Washington
County, Minnesota. Her and Sebastian are not buried side
by side. He is on one side of the cemetery and she is on
the other side.

Sarah Marty 1857 - Unknown She is believed to be buried
somewhere on Sebastian's farm. This
is another grave we cannot locate.

Sebastian Marty 1863 - 1948 Young Sebastian ran
the Marty farm in Lakeland Township after his father's
death. After the younger Sebastian's death, the
farm was passed on to his son, Walter. When Walter died,
most of the land was sold, but there are still Marty's
and Vollmer's living there.

member of the Mordick family from Lakeland Township,
Washington County. Minnesota, originally from
Elshorn, Holstein, Germany.

+ Jakob Bloomer 1810 - 1890
Jacob and his second wife, Barbara Wohlwend from Matt, Glarus,
Switzerland, immigrated to Brazil in 1855. Their three
youngest children were born there. Barbara was murdered
in Sao Paulo in 1885 according to Swiss records, by bandits
who came down from the mountains. Jacob then
returned to Switzerland with his children.

1917 After the war,
Sam was very active in civic affairs and was even elected
Washington County Treasurer. He received 24 dollars per
month pension for his amputated leg.
+ Matilda J. Burns Abt. 1844 Matilda and Sam
got a divorce when Matilda ran off with another
man.

died after drinking a powerful medicine that was left on a
high shelf at home. She is buried in Fairview
Cemetery in Stillwater, Minnesota, near her father and
stepmother in the Bloomer/Marty plot.
